Inland Empire Therapists Taking New Patients: Who Answered Our Call

Fourteen Inland Empire therapy practices told us they had openings this fall. Here is each one's phone, website, address, ages, insurance plans and first open date, plus how to book.

You decide to try therapy. You find a list of names and start calling. One number rings and rings. One office is full. Another says it takes your insurance, then asks for cash. Many people stop right there. This guide is meant to make that search shorter.

In late September and early October 2026, Inland Psychiatric Medical Group (IPMG), where NP Fady practices, wrote to therapy practices across the Inland Empire. We asked each one the same questions. Who has openings? What ages? Which insurance plans? In person, by video, or both? This page brings together practices that shared usable referral information, with each entry’s phone number, website, and address, and a note of what was confirmed and what still needs checking.

Which Inland Empire therapists are taking new patients?

Fourteen practices told us they had openings for new therapy patients between September 28 and October 9, 2026. They are in Redlands, Yucaipa, Grand Terrace, Riverside, Corona, Rancho Cucamonga, Apple Valley, Hemet, and Temecula, plus one group that works only by video. One more practice in the Coachella Valley, Desert Insight Family Therapy, is listed from its own website; it has not confirmed openings with us. Most take IEHP Medi-Cal. Many also take IEHP Covered, Blue Shield, Anthem, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, or Medicare. Openings change every week, so call first and confirm your plan.1

Openings and plans below are what each practice told IPMG by email between September 28 and October 9, 2026. One exception: in a follow-up message, cited on its entry, Mental Prosperity Counseling told us it also accepts Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, and Optum. The other exception is Desert Insight Family Therapy, whose entry comes from its own website, read October 13, 2026; its openings and plans are not confirmed. Ages come from the practice’s reply unless the entry says they come from its website. Phone numbers, addresses, and websites were checked on each practice’s own website on October 12, 2026. This is not a full list of therapists in the region, and a listing here is not an endorsement.

Updated October 14, 2026: added Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, and Optum to the plans Mental Prosperity Counseling told us it takes, from a follow-up message the practice sent us.28 Its openings were not rechecked.

Updated October 13, 2026: added Desert Insight Family Therapy, in Cathedral City and Indio, from its own website. Nothing else in the list changed.

Before you call: have these ready

  • Your insurance card. Read the full plan name. IEHP Medi-Cal and IEHP Covered are two different IEHP plans. IEHP Covered is IEHP’s Covered California plan.5
  • Who the therapy is for. Give the person’s age and one or two sentences about what is going on. For example: “I’ve had panic attacks for three months.”
  • How you want to meet. In person, by video, or either one. Know which days and times you can do.

These practices offer therapy, and Soultenders also offers psychological testing. Of the fourteen that reported openings, thirteen told us, or say on their website, that they do not prescribe medicine. Bear Creek did not say, and Desert Insight’s entry does not cover it, so ask. If you think medicine might help too, read Therapy, Medication, or Both?

The details for each practice follow, grouped by area. “Plans they told us” is what the practice wrote to us. “Also on their website” adds plans the practice lists publicly. Plans can differ from one therapist to the next inside the same practice, so name your exact plan when you call. Desert Insight Family Therapy’s card shows only what its website says, under “Plans on their website.”

Also replied, without a confirmed opening

Two other therapists who answered us did not confirm an opening when they wrote, but that can change.

  • Blue Sky Therapy, Joshua Tree. Melissa Grisi, LCSW 85168, told us she sees adult women, in person in Joshua Tree and by video, for trauma, PTSD, and anxiety, using EMDR and somatic therapy.1 Her reply did not confirm an opening, and her Psychology Today page said she was not taking new clients when we checked. Her website says she accepts IEHP. Call (760) 206-3602 or visit blueskyjt.com.25
  • Blanca Maldonado, LMFT 125159, La Quinta. Ages 10 and up, English and Spanish, in person and by video. She is EMDR-certified and also uses DBT, CBT, mindfulness, and somatic approaches. On October 4, 2026, she told us she takes IEHP Medi-Cal, IEHP Covered, Anthem Blue Cross, and Blue Shield, but had a waiting list and was not taking new clients.1 Psychology Today profile.26

What to say when you call

Keep your insurance card in front of you. Pause after each question.

“Hi. I’m looking for a therapist for [myself / my son, age __]. I have [full plan name from the card]. Do you have a therapist taking new patients with that plan?”

“Is that in person, by video, or both? What is the first open date?”

“Does that first visit start ongoing therapy, or does it put me on a waitlist?”

“Do I need a referral or approval first?”

“What will I pay for each visit?”

Write down the name of the person you spoke with, the date, and the first appointment offered. If two offices give you different answers about your plan, call the plan to settle it.

If no one on this list fits

  • Call your health plan. IEHP Medi-Cal Member Services is 1-800-440-4347 (TTY 1-800-718-4347). IEHP Covered Member Services is 1-855-433-4347 (TTY 711). Ask for a therapist who is taking new patients near you or by video. IEHP says members can see a behavioral health provider for therapy without a referral.23
  • Search the plan’s directory, then call to confirm. IEHP’s is Find Care.4
  • For more serious needs, Medi-Cal members can also reach county mental health. In San Bernardino County, call the Department of Behavioral Health Access Unit at 1-888-743-1478. In Riverside County, call the CARES Line at 1-800-499-3008.910
  • If the wait is too long, your plan has to help. How to Find a Psychiatrist Who Takes Your Insurance explains California’s wait-time rules, including the one for therapists, and gives you a call tracker.

How to check a therapist’s license

Where a practice named its therapists, we list each one’s California license or registration number. You can look up any of them for free on the state’s DCA License Search. The Board of Behavioral Sciences licenses LMFTs, LCSWs, and LPCCs and registers their associates.67

  • LMFT, LCSW, and LPCC are licensed therapists: a licensed marriage and family therapist, a licensed clinical social worker, and a licensed professional clinical counselor.
  • AMFT, ASW, and APCC are registered associates. They have finished a qualifying master’s or doctoral degree and are earning supervised hours toward a license. They must work under a licensed supervisor and may not practice on their own.8

Many of the openings on this page are with associates. A supervised associate can be a good fit, and you can always ask who supervises your therapist.

When to get help now

If you might harm yourself or someone else, or you cannot stay safe, do not wait for a therapy appointment. Use the crisis resources at the end of this page, or read Urgent Mental Health Care: Finding the Support You Need Right Away.

How this list was built, and its limits

IPMG emailed therapy practices across Riverside and San Bernardino counties between September 28 and October 9, 2026, and asked each one for its open therapists, ages, plans, formats, and wait times. The fourteen practices that reported openings are in the main list. So is Desert Insight Family Therapy, which replied without specific openings; its entry comes from its own website, read October 13, 2026. Two that replied without a confirmed opening are under “Also replied.” A few replies with no usable details are not listed. On October 12, 2026, we checked each practice’s own website, or its public listing when the website did not load, for its phone number, address, and published plans.

What this page cannot do: it did not book a test appointment, check any insurance contract, or confirm that each opening is still free. Openings fill fast and plans change. Confirm everything with the office and with your health plan before your first visit. No practice paid to be listed. IPMG may refer its own patients to these practices for therapy, and they may refer patients to IPMG for medication care. If you find an error, contact us and we will fix it.

  • Fourteen Inland Empire practices told IPMG they had therapy openings between September 28 and October 9, 2026.1
  • Most take IEHP Medi-Cal. Many also take IEHP Covered, Blue Shield, Anthem, or other plans.
  • Openings change week to week. Call first, and confirm your exact plan with the office and your insurer.
  • None of the practices that reported openings told us they prescribe medicine. Pair therapy with a psychiatric provider if medicine may help.
  • If nothing on this list works, your health plan has to help you find care.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral to see a therapist with IEHP?

IEHP says members can see a behavioral health provider for therapy without a referral. Some offices still ask for your IEHP member number before they book.2

How current is this list?

Each entry shows the date the practice told us about its openings. Those dates run from September 28 to October 9, 2026. Openings can fill within days, so treat each listing as a strong lead and call to confirm. Desert Insight Family Therapy’s entry shows the date we read its website instead, October 13, 2026, and its openings are not confirmed.

Can I do therapy by video?

Yes. Every practice on this list offers video visits. Healthy Mind Psychotherapy works only by video, and most of Mental Prosperity Counseling’s openings are by video. If you are not sure video is right for you, read Online or In-Person Psychiatry: Which Fits You. The same questions apply to therapy.

Does any practice on this list prescribe medication?

None told us they do. Of the fourteen that reported openings, thirteen told us, or say on their website, that they do not, and Bear Creek did not say. Desert Insight’s entry does not cover it, so ask. Medicine is prescribed by a psychiatrist, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, or a primary care clinician. Psychiatrist, NP, or Therapist: Who Does What explains the difference.

Is there a list just for children and teens?

Yes. Therapists for Kids and Teens in the Inland Empire: Who Said They Had Room pulls out the practices that see children and teens, with the youngest age each one accepts.
